The Story So Far
The X-Men's oldest foe, the self-styled master of magnetism, Magneto, was once Professor Xavier’s closest friend. Turning his back on Xavier's dream, he instead committed his existence to overthrowing humankind so that Homo superior could rule supreme. With his mastery over the force of magnetism, he can bend metals to his will and generate almost impenetrable energy fields, making him a supremely powerful foe.
Armed with razor-sharp teeth and claws, and protected by a sturdy exo-skeleton, these slimy horrors are deadly intergalactic parasites. They travel through the cosmos inside the bodies of giant space-faring creatures called Acanti, which they use as living spaceships. In order to reproduce, the Brood must find a creature to infect. Once a lifeform has been injected with their eggs, the embryo mutates the host’s DNA, transforming them into a new Brood warrior!
With the mutant ability to change her appearance at will, Mystique has known many faces and lived many lives – and they all seem to mean trouble for the X-Men. Her powers have made her a master criminal and a devious spy, able to slip past any security and learn many secrets. Along with being the biological mother of Kurt Wagner, AKA Nightcrawler, she was also Rogue's foster mother.
Born over 2,000 years ago, Apocalypse was one of the first mutants. He is obsessed with the idea of 'survival of the fittest' and has spent millennia shaping the Earth’s history, encouraging conflict to sort the weak from the strong. His powers have been augmented over time and he can transform his body into all manner of shapes, and duplicate other mutant powers. He has a special regeneration chamber that can restore his body when injured.
A blood-thirsty killer with no love for authority, Sabretooth is a deadly and unpredictable foe who thrives on chaos. His past is intrinsically tied to Wolverine's and the two were once begrudging comrades-at-arms. As a paid assassin and mercenary, this bestial villain has run into the X-Men on numerous occasions, allowing Sabretooth to partake in his favourite pastime – namely tormenting Wolverine.
Robot hunters originally created by Bolivar Trask, these mechanical giants were created to track down and eliminate mutants. Fitted with a blistering array of weapons, they normally operate in swarms and can overwhelm even the toughest mutants. Over the years, the Sentinel technology has been upgraded and they continue to be a major threat to mutantkind.
